AdventHealth Cardiovascular Institute, formerly Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute, treats more patients with heart and vascular disease, and more female cardiac patients, than any other hospital in the United States. With numerous locations around Central Florida, the nation’s leading heart center is close to home.

Let's Protect Your Heart For Life

From protecting your heart against heart disease or healing it, we’re here to support you. It might be confusing to know when you need to see a cardiologist and when you can work with your primary care doctor to strengthen your heart health. It’s always best to speak to your primary care doctor about the next steps in your heart care. Here are some reasons that a cardiologist might be recommended along your health journey.

  • A strong family history of heart disease
  • Pregnancy complications or preeclampsia
  • Starting a new exercise program over age 40
  • Risk factors for heart disease (high blood pressure, high total cholesterol, history of smoking)
  • History of heart attack/chest pain
  • Diabetes

Knowledge is Power

Take a moment to take control of your heart health. Just answering a couple of questions about your cholesterol, blood pressure and lifestyle will reveal your chances of heart disease in the next 10 years. It only takes a matter of minutes to start on the path to a stronger heart.

Finding Cures Starts with Finding Answers

One of the most important steps in your heart health journey is getting an accurate diagnosis. Here, you’ll be greeted with an expert team backed by leading-edge technology and diagnostic capabilities. It’s our goal to quickly get to the bottom of what’s causing your symptoms so we can develop a custom plan that offers healing. Our experts might suggest one or several of these diagnostic tests as a part of your treatment plan.

  • EKG or ECG: An electrocardiogram records the electrical signals in your heart. This noninvasive, painless test involves placing sensors on your chest and sometimes your arms or legs to detect the electrical activity of your heart.
  • Holter Monitor: A Holter monitor is a longer EKG. It measures and records your heart’s activity continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer with a battery-operated portable device.
  • Nuclear Imaging: A nuclear imaging stress test uses radioactive dye and an imaging machine to show the blood flow to your heart while at rest and during activity.  The images can help diagnose poor blood flow or heart damage.
  • Stress Test: A stress test shows how your heart works during exercise while riding a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill and can diagnose problems with your heart’s blood flow.
  • TEE: Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) produces detailed pictures of your heart, that is a higher quality than EKG or ECG, to show the arteries that lead to and from your heart using ultrasound technology through your esophagus.
